Compostable films break down under defined industrial conditions, and the materials carry certifications that state exactly which conditions. That is the part most suppliers skip, and it is the difference between a defensible claim and a complaint.
The honest limitation is shelf life. Compostable films generally offer a weaker moisture and oxygen barrier than a foil laminate, so they suit treats, toppers and shorter-life dry products better than a 12-month premium kibble.

That depends on the specific certification. Industrial composting and home composting are different standards, and we state which one the material holds rather than implying both.

Not well. Moisture and heat exposure break the film down faster than the product life requires, so we would steer you to a retort structure instead.
